About Priming the Lectionary
Priming the Lectionary is a whole approach to engaging the lectionary with depth, imagination and care for the world. Rooted in inclusive, justice-seeking theology, it helps communities meet Scripture in ways that honour the dignity of every person, speak honestly about contemporary life and open up space for joy, questioning and hope. Along the way, it helps people grow a shared language and theology that builds confidence in talking about faith with one another – and in everyday conversations with those beyond the Church.
The series brings together printed books and online companion materials that work as one flexible toolkit. Each volume offers a generous spread of resources for every set of readings – prayers; threads, context and connections to shape preaching and teaching; open discussion questions; visual and creative ideas; guided meditations; performance pieces; simple spiritual practices; and digital prompts. The online materials add further ideas, downloadable content and adaptable formats to support whatever you’re planning, from gathered worship to social media posts and group discussions.
Whether you’re a minister, lay preacher, worship leader, chaplain, group facilitator or an everyday disciple who loves the lectionary, Priming the Lectionary is designed to be easy to adapt for many different spaces – a church building, a community café, a festival tent, a workplace chaplaincy drop-in and more. Together, the books and online resources invite you into faithful, creative encounters with Scripture that are inclusive, courageous and alive to the world God loves.
